- Usually, silica gel based chromatography columns have good mechanical stability and can provide high separation efficiency, but they cannot be analyzed under alkaline conditions, and the residual silica gel on their surface is very easy to adsorb alkaline organic compounds.
- InertSustain C18 uses a newly modified silica gel with chemical modifications on its surface, allowing for precise control of the active sites on the surface.
- InertSustain C18 not only inherits the advantages of Inertsil series liquid chromatography columns, such as extremely low column back pressure, high inertness to many analytes, and high column efficiency, but also has good compatibility with many solvents. It can also be analyzed in a wide pH range and has continuous and stable column efficiency between columns of different batches.
*New silicone gel with changes
- It is impossible to completely seal the residual silanol group using traditional chemical modification methods. GL Sciences has developed an innovative silicone gel that provides both high inertness (alkali deactivation) and excellent durability across a wide pH range.

The quality and column efficiency of InertSustain
- When the chromatographic column contains residual active adsorption sites, it can cause peak tailing or sample adsorption problems. This phenomenon does not occur on InertSustain C18 because the silanol group is tail sealed and has a neutral silica gel surface.
- In order to ensure the reproducibility of the product, strict chromatographic testing was carried out on each chromatographic column, examining inertness, durability, theoretical plate number, and compound retention time reproducibility.
Basic compound
Huanglian Su and Dexmedetomidine are two highly alkaline compounds that can cause severe peak tailing when silanol groups remain on the surface of the chromatographic column packing. As shown in the figure on the right, InertSustain can provide very stable chromatograms for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Acid Compounds
When the surface of the chromatographic column packing appears alkaline, it can cause tailing of two acidic compounds, bright blue FCF and salicylic acid. InertSustain can provide excellent peak shapes due to its neutral silica gel surface.
Longer column lifespan and wider pH compatibility
As shown in the experimental results below, due to the introduction of the new ES silica gel, InertSustain C18 can maintain high column efficiency and sharp peak shape for 300 hours, which cannot be achieved by other brands' wide pH range chromatography columns.
