RDS line rod coating rod and ink scraper rod from the United States

R.D.SPECIALIES RDS, founded in 1936 in the United States, is a manufacturer of wire rod coating rods, including RDS wire rods, RDS scraper rods, and wire winding rods. It is mainly used for coating wet films of specified thicknesses to determine the covering power, color, or preparation of samples. Made of stainless steel wear-resistant material, it is durable and long-lasting. Very suitable for testing thin coatings, such as can coatings and paper coatings. Used for soft materials such as paper, cardboard, test cardboard, foil, leather, textiles, etc., it has good effects. Stainless steel wires of different diameters are wrapped around stainless steel rods of certain diameters and lengths, and coatings of different thicknesses are prepared by using the gaps between the wires. Used in the testing of inks, coatings, viscoses and various lotion for research, testing and quality control

RDSPrinciple of using wire rod:

RDSWire rod is suitable for various soft substrates such as cardboard, plastic sheets, leather, textiles, etc. The surface is usually uneven or partially raised, and using a general scraper type coating machine will produce uneven coating thickness. The use of RDS cable rods can solve this problem. When the coating machine is dragged on the substrate, it will roll and flatten the substrate. The grooves formed by the threads on the coating machine are used to produce a thick film. The theoretical film thickness is determined by the thread clearance. The coating machine is installed on a bracket with a handle, which is corrosion-resistant

The coating thickness is mainly divided into three types:

RDSTheoretical wet film thickness, actual wet film thickness, and dry film thickness of the wire rod

RDSThe theoretical wet film thickness of the wire rod is the moment between the edge of the coating machine and the coating plane. However, when the coating machine applies coating on the base surface, due to the effects of material fluidity and coating speed, the film layer will produce a certain shear phenomenon, resulting in the actual wet film thickness being smaller than the theoretical value (generally 60-70% of the theoretical value, and the volume of the film layer will shrink after drying, resulting in a smaller coating rod. The dry film thickness is about 40-50% of the actual wet film thickness)

When using a rod type RDS wire rod, if the storage width is wider than the gap used for coating (i.e. the part where there is a gap between the coating machine and the base surface), the edge of the coating layer will increase by an uncontrollable increment compared to the original expected value, which will cause errors in the theoretical wet film thickness. And ERICHSEN coating machine eliminates the root cause of this inconsistency.

RDSWire rod ruler parameters:

1.Wet film thickness: 14 μ m

2.Wire rod diameter: 3/8 '(9.4mm)

3.Total length: 16 '(40cm)

4.Coating width: 12 '(30cm)

5.Grip section: 2 'x 2' (5 x 5cm)

Note:

  • The actual transmission rate is influenced by the rheological properties of the coating and other variables
  • The actual transmission rate may vary from one pole configuration to another
  • The size of the half steel wire ranges from 0.0025 'to 0.0165'
  • The calculation of dry coating weight assumes a coating density of 1.0g/cm3
  • GSM = Grams per square Meter
  • #/3000 = Lbs per 3000 square feet
  • Mil is a unit of length, one thousandth of an inch, which means 1mil=0.001inch=0.0025cm=25um
  • Generally, in Europe and America, the British unit mils is used as the unit of paint film thickness because mils exactly fits the range of conventional paint films (1mil~10mil=25~250um). In China, the standard length unit um micrometer is generally used as the unit of paint film thickness
