1、 Introduction:
Manganese sand filter material has a black brown appearance, nearly circular shape, and is mainly composed of manganese dioxide, with a content between 35% and 45%. Using it to treat groundwater has a simple process, easy operation, small footprint, low project cost, long-term stability, and a service period of more than 5 years. It is easy to manage and can remove harmful substances such as iron, manganese, and arsenic in water without adding any chemical agents. The water quality fully meets the national drinking water standards and is an excellent filter material for groundwater treatment.
2、 Working principle:
Iron was once present in underground (well) water in the form of Fe2+, which had a strange color and odor, polluted the ion exchange resin and reduced its exchange capacity. Over time, iron scale was formed, affecting heat transfer and corroding equipment. The MnO2 in manganese sand undergoes oxidation-reduction reaction with Fe2+, converting Fe2+to Fe3+and generating Fe (OH) 3 precipitate, thereby utilizing the backwash function of the manganese sand filter to achieve the purpose of removal and purification.
3、 Purpose:
Natural manganese sand iron removal is a contact catalytic iron removal process, suitable for iron removal in groundwater with iron content less than 20mg/l. The high valence manganese contained in natural manganese sand can oxidize divalent iron in water to trivalent iron, while forming a catalytic "active filter membrane" on the surface, further improving the iron removal effect. After aeration, the iron containing water can complete the entire iron removal process by only filtering through natural manganese sand once. It is commonly used in drinking water iron and manganese removal filtration devices, as well as in groundwater iron and manganese removal purification water quality.
4、 Iron removal effect:
In the process of water softening, firstly, due to the limited treatment time of manganese sand softened water, and secondly, due to the presence of iron elemental, ferric oxide, ferrous oxide and other iron oxides in the water, various substances are mixed, which greatly reduces the iron and manganese removal effect of manganese sand and the softening water effect. Therefore, in order to increase the iron and manganese removal effect of manganese sand, an aeration treatment process should be added before the manganese sand treatment process to achieve the best effect of iron and manganese removal! Different ratios of anaerobic aerobic facultative biological treatment processes can be selected according to different combinations of water quality. This process not only has excellent nitrogen and phosphorus removal effects, but also can decompose high molecular weight organic matter into low molecular weight organic matter that is easy to biodegrade by aerobic organisms. The most important thing is to be able to oxidize elemental iron, elemental manganese, ferrous oxide, and low valent manganese oxide into high valent iron oxides!
