A balanced tension meter consists of two parts: a balance sensor and a moisture content measuring device. The balance sensor is composed of a special material, This material has two characteristics: a stable relationship between water content and water potential, and high permeability. Good permeability ensures that its water potential changes synchronously with the measured soil. The moisture content measuring device constantly measures the moisture content in the balance sensor. As the relationship between moisture content and water potential is known, the measured moisture content is equivalent to the measured soil water potential. The moisture content measuring device is fixed inside the balance sensor, and the environmental conditions around the probe remain stable and unchanged, thus avoiding the common effects of soil density, stones, and roots when measuring moisture content and ensuring the accuracy of water potential measurement.
