The application of letterpress printing in newspapers has a long history in China. From the mid Tang Dynasty to the late Ming Dynasty, feudal dynasties throughout history mostly used woodblock printing for the dissemination of palace political reports. In the eleventh year of Ming Chongzhen (1638), wooden movable type letterpress was used to print the palace newspaper. With the introduction of Western industrial technology, in the 1870s, lead movable type typesetting and platform embossing machines were used to print newspapers, and later the relief plate replication technology of manually printing paper and casting flat lead plates was gradually applied. From the early 20th century to the 1950s, only a few newspapers in China (such as "Shenbao", "Xinwen Bao (China)", "Ta Kung Pao", etc.) used wheel transfer printing machines to print their newspapers. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the news industry developed rapidly. Although the embossed printing technology of newspapers still followed the manual typesetting method of lead type, in terms of printing technology, it gradually popularized the advanced high-speed letterpress rotary printing of newspapers, entering the stage of high-speed printing of newspapers.
